I was very hesitant to use this product and avoided it for a while after seeing some negative reviews. I'm so glad I took the risk as I've only had great experiences and amazing projects with Sulky. I use it for hand embroidery. This product has taken my sewing projects from good to great! Very easy to use, it makes stitches on terry, knit, cotton, waffle and many other fabrics evenly, professionally and beautifully. Not only does it stabilize the fabric, but it also ensures your stitches sit perfectly over the fabric. The seams do not go into the fabric, Your seams do not pull the threads of the fabric with the stitches (because the stitches on terry cloth do without a real fleece). And what I like the most is that it's a fleece that doubles as an embroidery pattern. I use it in one of two ways. The first way I use it is to draw with a regular pencil whatever pattern or words I want to embroider on a gloomy sheet. Or I print what I want to embroider (images or a specific font for words or a combination of these) on a gloomy sheet. I take the hoop I use (some fabrics don't need a hoop if the fabric is a little stiff, but I hoop most) and then place it on the drab sheet with the design on it. I use the outside of the tire, to draw the outside edge of my tire with my design in the center as if it were twisted. This shows where my hoop is, it will expand on its outside edges. I then trim off the excess foam around this line and add another two inches or so since the padding should extend past the frame after you've secured your project. I prepare the fabric, peel off the backing of the sheet and it sticks to the fabric. I hoop the fabric to which the seam will now be glued and start sewing! It's very simple, and an added benefit if you're like me is that the seam sheet has small dots evenly spaced across the sheet. No printed dots, but small dots, almost like tiny indentations, that are part of the leaf's decoration. I use them to make sure my stitches are even and spaced apart. It's just a by-product that I wasn't expecting. This helps me keep all my stitches the same size. If you don't need them, it won't hurt your project like I did. I don't even realize they were there until I used the sheets a second time. After I'm done with my seams, I stretch them out and tease up the edges of those extra inches that have spread out around my hoop. Then I cut off as much of the excess grumpy as I can. Then I take a bowl of very hot tap water and put the project in it. I shake or stir gently for 1-2 minutes and that will dissolve whatever is left on the fabric. If this doesn't go away within the first minute or two, drain the water, start with fresh water, and repeat the process. I only had to do this once, but I think it was because I wasn't trimming as much as I should have. After how I dissolved the fretfulness in a bowl of hot water. I rinse the fabric under a faucet with warm water to ensure all dissolved product is removed from the fabric. And I'm not very gentle with him (I'm not going to hit him on a rock or washboard, but you don't have to be too redheaded). After rinsing it thoroughly and squeezing out the excess water, I let it air dry. After that, I usually wash it either by hand or on the gentle cycle, before giving it away or incorporating it into another project I'm working on. That's all! It's really very simple. Great guide there. Now comments have been left on other testimonies with experiences I have never had or with my fellow sisters with whom I have shared this wonderful find. The only side effect I had was that you have to keep the needle sharp. They tend to fade a little quicker if you use a crabby leaf. I think it's understandable since you're going through two coats instead of one and the whimsy feels a little thick when you first use it. I have never had a glued needle and have done over 40 projects with it. What I do, is to have needle emery handy or a purple needle sharpening pad - that's my favorite thing to use, and if I change the color of the thread or if the needle gets a little dull - I just sharpen it. The problem is solved. The end product is a beautifully tailored product where your threads/stitch patterns lie evenly on your fabric rather than being swallowed up by it, or if you're using stretchy knits or cottons, they keep your fabric stable. while keeping your pattern as a map directly on the stabilizer. Then when you are finished sewing, this stabilizer will not be visible from the back. It's really great and I recommend it with all my heart. Stitchers love this awesome tool for our sewing box! I'm happy to answer any questions if they are left in the comments section. I was very nervous when I first used it, so I made a small project, a sampler, to test it out. Happy to say it's gone with fluffy cotton fluff and recolored flowers! One final warning - you could just become a crabby addict. I have made. and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
