First of all this is not a 5x increase, not even close. More like 2x. The dimmer is controlled by the up/down buttons; Holding down the button gives the impression of smooth dimming, but it's almost impossible to stop at the "middle" setting. So in the end you just press the button once and then you realize it's NOT stepless, it's 11 discrete steps. There are 2 rings of light; one uses 6500K LEDs, the other around 2300K. The third "mode" is simply the simultaneous inclusion of both sentences. It draws just over 1 amp at full brightness and about 0.1 amp at full dimming. It works great with most USB ports that you'll find on all but the oldest computers. The plastic cone ring is loose in the body and when you take the head to install it - which is exactly how it should be - the plastic cone in the body breaks. This does not affect usability, but it is annoying. The lens is real glass. It is uncoated and exhibits a significant amount of chromatic aberration. This means if you look off-center at a white object, one side will have a red border and the other side will have a blue border. It's big enough to see through with both eyes if you don't wear glasses. The included table clamp doesn't clamp a ledge table - they could easily have designed it for that, but they didn't. So your table should have a plain open edge. My table has a ledge all the way around so I had to modify the clamp. The mount stays where you put it and has enough reach for normal use. Everything about this lamp screams "cheap" and it's made in China. It is functional for light use or occasional use. Though not 5 times it still works for me. I use it for repairing electronic circuits and detail work on precision mechanical parts.
