Review on πŸ“» Vintage AM FM Portable Radio with Bluetooth Speaker: Battery & AC Powered Retro Transistor Radio for Home and Outdoor Use by Casey Mann

Revainrating 3 out of 5

FM tuner has excessive station drift, fiddly volume/on/off button

The unit appears to be of decent build quality. The style is a bit retro, the size is small and unobtrusive. Without batteries, the device is light. Bluetooth connects easily. In general, the sound quality is normal for a small, inexpensive device with a single speaker. The volume can be surprisingly loud for the size of the device. Telescopic antenna captures many channels; In fact, there are so many that the channels overlap, making it difficult to tune in to the exact station. Also, the station's drift is very obvious; Tune to a station and after 30 minutes you hear static or a different station. Even if you hold the radio with your hand to stabilize it while tuning, your body acts as an antenna amplifier. You can tune into a station and as soon as you let go of the radio the station will disappear or drift away. A few more notes: The power/volume button is touchy. - When the volume is increased, a very small movement will result in a large increase in volume. When turning down the volume, if the rotary control is turned to the point where it meets the slightest resistance to lock, the device turns off. When you release the pressure (without ever exceeding the detent), the device turns back on. If you are connected to Bluetooth you will need to fix every time this happens. Conversely, when turned on, little force is required to overcome the detent, often resulting in a loud burst of noise. I wanted to use this radio. Mainly for quiet playback in the office so as not to disturb other people in the office. This device is not very suitable for this purpose. For garage radio, back deck, beach trip, etc. This radio maybe suitable for some people. For myself, I am sending this device back and buying a digitally controlled device. and station presets.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Has issues
