Yes, I have had Sunbeam products before and most of the reviews I have read are true. They're cheaply made, assembly is almost impossible to lay upright, and the controls are generally unreliable. However, once you learn how to use them, they can be extremely helpful. I use this on my bed in winter; but to make it comfortable I have to put an insulated mattress pad under the mat AND cover it with either a pair of flannel blankets or a fairly thick acrylic blanket to run the heating elements. Then make your bed as usual, and it's usually quite comfortable to lie on, although it takes longer for the bed to heat up. It also periodically stops heating and the light on the remote control starts flashing. However, if you unplug BOTH ends of the cable and plug it back in, it usually works again for a few weeks before the same error occurs. What I love about this rug (and another one under my comforters that my two dogs sleep on) is the 10 hour time out; You can sleep a lot without interruption, while most other pads I've seen last only three hours.
