I've wanted a DSLR for about 8 years but never got around to investing in one. A year before I bought this camera I was evaluating all my options (until I died). I compared specs, ratings, prices and tested every camera in the store. twice. My uncle is a professional photographer. By professional I mean the big leagues. He swears by Nikon. Personally, I've always been a canon girl. My first "real" camera was a Rebel SLR. What attracted me to Nikon is that you get more features for the same money as Canon's competing line and the lenses are a bit cheaper. Lenses are everything. When buying a DSLR for the first time, people tend to be very picky about the camera and its features. They need to be mindful of what lenses they want to buy now and in the future. You can upgrade your camera body at any time. However, you don't want to throw away all the money you've invested in lenses. As soon as I received my Nikon, I immediately got to work. My first test was at a wedding where I was the only photographer (wow!). Although I mainly used it in automatic mode (now I groan at the mention), the photos turned out amazing. Since then I have learned to use it in manual mode and to shoot at all kinds of events and on all kinds of subjects. The D5200 delivers the best outdoor performance in all types of lighting. It also works decently indoors. But I would recommend getting a better flash if you intend to use it the most.
