A year ago when I was looking for speakers for my HT system I read every review I could find to find out which speakers would be best for my budget of $300 or $300 are appropriate. ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 continued to take first or second place in the reviews. In the test reports, however, it was said again and again that if you can increase the budget even more, then you should reach for the KEF Q150. It stuck in my head. But the KEF Q150s were well over my budget at the time, so I chose ELAC for front left and right and ELAC Debut 2.0 C5.2 for center, with Fluance AVBP2 bipolar speakers completing my side surround setup. They were a bit fiddly to set up. I had to fiddle with Yamaha's YPAO measurements, but I got good sound out of them. At least that's what I thought at the time. Don't get me wrong, I liked it but something was missing. I felt it especially with the environment. A few weeks ago, while researching surround sound further and contemplating switching to a better bipole/dipole speaker, I came across some pretty strong opinions about using straight speakers for surround sound, which led me to believe that I would have made wrong choice bipole design. start with. I noticed at the time that Revain sold KEF Q150s for half the price of $300 a pair. I decided to take a chance and try them as surround speakers. I was amazed at the result. My entire system was transformed instantly. I now believe in using straight speakers for surround sound, although some of that may be due to the KEF Q150's Uni-Q design and other straight speakers may or may not be as good for that purpose. But KEF worked surprisingly well. They also opened ELAC so I was very happy. And they looked so sleek too! I decided to go ahead and replace my ELAC L/C/R with a KEF Q150. Let me tell you the results have been impressive. The YPAO hit the spot first time and for the first time I didn't have to change anything other than cranking the speakers down with an 80Hz crossover to redirect the bass to the subwoofer. The sound was so good I couldn't stop watching Dolby Atmos and DTS:X trailers on YouTube. This is an amazing little speaker! Significantly more detailed than ELAC, balanced and clear, whether at high or low volume. At the original price, what I made wouldn't be a viable project for me, but with the current discount, I got a sound system I could only dream of before. $300 KEF Q150 vs. $300 ELAC Debut 2.0? There is no competition! You must do it for your own sake to get KEF. They belong to a different class than ELAC. Highly recommended.
