Not everything is as simple as it seems and there is no support for Apple HomeKit

Not as easy as advertised AND NO APPLE HOMEKIT SUPPORT. After much research, we made the wrong decision and chose SimpliSafe. Videos and online instructions made setup a breeze. We bought a keyboard, 8 input sensors, a motion sensor, a doorbell, a door lock and a camera. Many of them were very easy to set up, and some were even very impressive. However, it's not nearly as easy as it seems. If you can use the phone app, setting it up is a lot easier than naming devices with archaic keyboard input. Before I continue, I would like to reiterate that SimpliSafe does not work with HomeKit (Siri), although it should have when we ordered our system. Now everything I've read says that Apple and SimpliSafe couldn't agree in principle and there are no plans for integration in the future (confirmed by tech support). That would be a deal breaker as I would never go with a system that doesn't work with Apple. Back to the installation, don't expect the installation to take a few hours. Plan a full day. The lock isn't as intuitive as it sounds, and none of the adapters matched the exact instructions we needed for our newly built townhouse. We chose the option that most closely resembles the one proposed and luckily it worked. What you are really replacing is a physical latch and this may take some time. The doorbell was very problematic. He repeatedly failed to connect to the WiFi network even though he was less than 8 feet from the extender. The troubleshooter only suggested the option of adding a repeater, which we already had and were within range. Less than two weeks later, the doorbell lost connection for no apparent reason. SimpliSafe's support was very helpful, although they talk to you like you're not tech savvy at all, which is not my case. After going through a reboot (small hole in the doorbell) which wasn't mentioned in any documentation I could find, we were able to get the doorbell back online and it's been working properly for a few weeks now. lost wifi connection even though the camera didn't move and nothing changed on our wifi. After three attempts to add the camera, it refuses to connect to the network. Again, it has a very strong Wi-Fi signal. Another support call is required to reconnect the camera to the network. Finally applications. We installed apps on an iPhone X, two iPad Pros and an Apple Watch 4. The phone app is ok but slow compared to other apps. There is no iPad app. You are stuck downloading an iPhone app, which means no horizontal usage. Very disappointing. When the doorbell rings, I expect the camera on my phone to turn on automatically. nope They'll get a notification and by the time the app opens and you can look at the camera, they're gone. The Apple Watch app is completely useless. It just doesn't work. Most of the time when you click on it, it will start updating indefinitely. A couple of times the alarm status was completely wrong after the update was complete, even though the phone had the exact alarm status. Do your research and don't believe all the recommendations SimpliSafe claims to have. There are several other security systems I've found or that are newer that promise a better experience and integration with Apple HomeKit. At our country home we use a different system that is far superior to SimpliSafe.
