Some people had to ask me if these were real candles when they saw them in glass votives/jars. I looked like melted wax. The downsides are that sometimes the timer works and sometimes it doesn't, which doesn't really bother me because I only turn it on when company is over. The second minus: yes, they flicker, but sometimes they flicker, and sometimes they don't. I'm still happy with the purchase because it completed the look I was looking for. Edit: Since I left the switch in the "ON" position, they're constantly on after 18 hours. I even noticed that they all flicker, flicker slightly, but still flicker.
