Medium quality - faulty control on a lightbar

For setting up video studio lighting. Having used this company's products before, I expected average quality but functional. What I received was of average quality but clearly didn't make it through the quality control process as the brightness control on the back of one of the panels wasn't working properly. No matter which way you turn the dial, the brightness will increase until you reach 100%. Then the brightness can only be reduced with the remote control. I'll just get it working with my setup as the return/exchange process is just too cumbersome. I have found that the rod mount on the lighting mount is quite messy and the way they installed the set screw will scratch the mount on the rods quite badly. Also, on one of the stitched seams on the handle of a suitcase, they completely missed the edge of the fabric, leaving a free edge hanging around that should have been sewn up. Things that would have to be caught if the manufacturer had a decent quality control program. The stands seem solid enough, although you have to loosen the set screws a bit to fix the sections and then unscrew them firmly to loosen things up. enough to move freely again. I'm probably just too used to the quick release skewers on my high end tripods and tripods. It seems like you need to play around with them a lot more to tweak and make small adjustments. Grounding as the wire is shorter than the height of the stand so you will need to use tape or otherwise attach it to the stand so it doesn't pull on the wire connected to the light. It's fine, but make sure you have tape or Velcro handy. To use the barn doors with the light below horizontal, you must mount the light bracket to the stand on the side. You cannot direct the light downwards when the mount is oriented vertically. If the lantern is attached as a side mount, it must be aligned with one of the legs of the stand, or sandbags must be used to prevent the stand from falling (sandbags are probably a good idea anyway). One thing not mentioned in the description is that the light intensity adjustment is actually done in 10% increments, not continuously. So you basically have 10 levels of brightness. If you really need to fine-tune the lighting level to the scene, you may find this a bit limiting. I wish it was a little over 5600,000 but that's what you get and what it's advertised for. And a nice feature that wasn't very clear in the description is that you can easily switch each light to a different channel. for the remote control, with which you can set the brightness and temperature individually for each of the 10 light sources. If you put the lights on the same channel they will all be the same intensity and temperature when you set the remote. So if you have a main light and a fill light with different brightness levels and they are on the same channel, adjusting the brightness on the remote will change both lights to the same brightness (or temperature) instead of boosting them. or down from their initial setting. So if you want to keep them at different brightness levels and decrease each one by a notch, you need to have them on separate channels and adjust one at a time.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Reliability
