We used this for a 2 week trip in November 2017; one week in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan and one week in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This worked much better than I thought. You can easily download more time by purchasing packages through the app or by purchasing a SIM card from the country you are traveling to. Buying time through the app is convenient but more expensive than buying a SIM card. However, it takes time to buy and register a SIM card. So on my next trip I will use the SIM card route and use the app as a backup plan. The app and the device are easy to use. I never ran out of battery even on the days I turned them on at 7am and off at 10pm. There were three of us using the device at the same time. When traveling I just carried it in my fanny pack or backpack. We mainly used it for web browsing, navigation and messaging and for those purposes there was no difference to using my phone on a good cellular network. My daughter streamed some videos and that worked fine as long as the signal was strong enough. We only had problems in the middle of nowhere (literally in a paddy field in Cambodia where the cellular signal strength was one band or none so the phone didn't work either). Overall I highly recommend this product. It paid off on a trip so even if I head off to another adventure, I'll have to buy a newer version, everything will be fine.
