The challenge for inexpensive membrane keyboards is to make them worthwhile while considering trade-offs. The compromise Roccat made with this keyboard was to use very high quality keycaps and foil bases, but only use the zone lighting and not the foil base lighting. You can have up to five backlit zones, or you can have one (my personal preference) with backlit buttons. The keycap feel will always be softer than crisp mechanics, but the feel is way better than the competition as I feel the keycaps are more premium than the rest. I think this and SteelSeries have the best membrane offerings , and the trade-offs in making a cheap keyboard should emphasize quality of parts, not cosmetics. When cosmetics are desirable compared to performance, a specific brand is used, marked in green. But the Roccat's membrane performance is better optimized for gaming than the others at this point. If you want a quieter keyboard, or just don't want a mechanical or optical keyboard, this is a very good buy for use with one color. Swarm (Roccat software) is easy to use with this zone lighting keyboard.
