I was surprised when I received the brush. The handle is oval, not round, and it is smooth, not textured. Photos can be very deceiving. It has a small knot (smaller and less full brush than most similar brushes) that gives good lather. I simply rinsed the brush out before using it (first time) and there was no wet dog smell to contend with. A few bristles were lost at first, but after that all hands stayed on deck. The oval handle is handy, especially if you're using brush strokes rather than circular motions when lathering. It's actually like using the recommended method; additionally extends the service life of the brush. Produced in Germany.
