To rate a scratching post 5 stars it has to be really good. This design is great! We have two adult cats and they have never felt comfortable in the same tree. The fat man (14#) can easily move from platform to platform and the tree is still very stable when standing on the top platform (it easily fits on it). The quality of the wood is also excellent. The carpet adheres well to the wood and was easy to assemble. Update: I've had this device for about a year. The cats still love it. I covered the bottom posts with sisal because it scratched the carpeted poles and the little polyester fibers were hanging all over the place. The carpet on the platforms is still in great condition - I don't know what's wrong with this carpet, but with some forex it removes all stains immediately.
