The packaging was great! So I was optimistic. I was thrilled to have this shiny new trash can as part of my home. Heck I paid over $65 I expected what I paid for. So I carefully unpacked the trash can, being careful not to stain my shiny new toy. I plugged in the D-Cell batteries, put them in the garbage bag and was ready to go. At least I thought so! The lid of the garbage can was not opened by the motion sensor. The motion sensor recognized that something was there, but didn't communicate with the lid. The only way to get the lid off was to open it by hand, and I could pay less than $20 for something like that at Walmart. . One suggestion was to "slowly open and close the lid 30 times" and then try again. At this point I'm wondering if I need to put my left foot in and shake it too. It was crazy! BUT yes, I tried that. I've also tried taking the batteries out all at once, letting them drain overnight, then putting them back in the next day (one user promised this would work). -- NO, still not working! So disappointed with this product. It's so cheaply made. I'm sending this back and spending some extra money for a more reliable bin at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
