An almost perfect portable monitor that will change the way you use your laptop.

Before I get to my review, I would like to say that I should have bought a portable monitor a long time ago. Installing this device next to my laptop, whether at home or while traveling, has completely changed my options, apart from the large dual display PC in my office. Try it. Before I bought this device, I bought a competitor's product, which I immediately returned. I chose Wimaxit based on the generally positive reviews and VESA mounting points. The latter would give me the option of adding a matching table stand or even a wall mount to the monitor. While I've explored both, I still use the case cover that doubles as a stand. First, the performance of the monitor is excellent. Images are sharp and clear, and after a little tweaking of the colors (and whites), they pretty much match the screen on my HP Specter 13 laptop. The monitor turns on instantly when plugged into the laptop, and aside from the mundane blue "WIMAXIT" splash screen, it's ready to use right out of the box. The form factor is surprisingly good, even with a 1-inch bezel at the bottom of the screen. Initially I was looking for the thinnest bezel possible, but later found that my laptop screen has almost the same bezel on the bottom, and for good reason. The bezels on the sides and top are pretty thin and overall the screen looks great. The lid, which serves as a stand, is fine. It works great as a cover except that (1) there is no magnet closure and (2) there are 2 screws holding it to the monitor and the heads of those screws stick out a bit. You have to be careful not to put it in a pocket with the screws pressed against the laptop or you'll scratch it. As for using it as a stand, it works as advertised, but not without a few annoyances. First, the grooves that adjust the angle are always in the wrong place, and second, the protruding part of the lid makes it difficult to adjust my laptop into the correct position. Small remarks, but they can also annoy you. The most annoying thing is the way the cables connect on the side of the monitor. HDMI (full size), USB-C, Type-C Power, and Micro-USB protrude on the side, which creates a messy look and can damage the cable/connector if you bump into one or more of the cables. I searched a lot and couldn't find an alternative to the cable ports on the back of the unit and my plan to buy several 90 degree adapters quickly fell through as they further increased the volume of exposed cables. The worst thing about this monitor is the UI for volume and all other display settings. All you have is a button and a button/stick, and the latter is almost useless. You think you're "running" but you accidentally press, then you try to press but you run. A consistent set of settings can take a long time, so I took off a whole star for that interface. Luckily, there's no branding on the product itself, just the welcome screen mentioned above. I traveled with the screen in my briefcase along with my laptop and it worked as expected. A single USB-C connection to a PC is great, and you can even connect a power bank to a monitor and still power the laptop. Ideal for any spare adapter you have at home. I recommend an external monitor to any laptop user who is used to dual screens, and I also recommend this monitor to those looking for a good choice. Dunno about durability but this product looks good, performs well and meets most of my expectations.
