No matter how smooth or really hard the ride, this light is still attached to the handlebars. Even the backlight is still connected, which surprised me because at one point it seemed like it was off because it was off, but that was because the battery was dead, I didn't charge it long enough. Both lights are fully rechargeable but I forgot that when charging the front light I forgot to charge the rear one so if I remember the front one was almost done. When the front ones were done, I took them off and put them on. Therefore, in this case, please make sure that both are fully charged before using or installing them. What I like about the front light is that I can either set it very bright for very dark areas or less bright for well-lit areas. There are a total of 5 lighting settings: front, low, medium, high, fast flash or SOS. On the back, it's either solid red or an SOS flash. The width of these lights isn't that wide, the front light is about 2 inches wide, but the area it illuminates is much larger, providing a really wide angle of illumination. It is actually easy to install each light and the instructions are very detailed. Definitely a great light for use on smooth and rough trails.
