I purchased this item to use face down after vitrectomy surgery. It is durable and easily converts from a tabletop to a headboard. If you plan on using it for face-down positioning, a few words of wisdom: you can't wear safety goggles during use. Even the smallest frames you have won't fit in an aperture. I removed the chest plate (which attaches with velcro) because it allowed me to position myself more comfortably to accommodate my medium sized B/C boobs. I had to lie face down for 10 days and it saved my neck and back from a terrible strain. I couldn't sleep using it on my bed because I don't sleep on my stomach, but it gave me some relief when I used it for naps. I pulled the covers off the edge of the bed and used them, resting my feet against the headboard of the bed and placing a flat pillow under my thighs. It works, and if you can design a face stand that allows you to wear glasses, that would be the perfect solution for a face-down position for watching a film tablet. I tried using a vitrectomy speculum with it but it was not easy to use as the speculum was not adjustable and one had to be in a less than ideal sitting position for the speculum to work. I used a flat pillow to rest on my lap to provide a variety of seating options. The headrest can be adjusted up and down with two control knobs, and a lever on the side allows it to be adjusted to different angles. The base also has a lever that allows for adjustment, which helped me try different seating options. It worked and was a good decision over hiring vitrectomy equipment that your insurance doesn't cover. If you have time before surgery I would suggest buying one a week before surgery and trying it out in different positions. I did and I'm glad I did.
