Great film despite the difficult subject. .

An excellent film despite the complex subject matter. If I were to teach a college level film course, this would be the number one film I should study. Symbolism, omens and images are worth studying. The filmmakers use the characters to show the rise and fall of World War II from the Nazi perspective. Their movements, clothing and facial expressions tell the story of a confident Nazi Germany rising to become a fractured and desperate group of sociopaths trying to complete their horrifying "Final Solution" with the Allies breathing down their necks. In this film, two boys, victims of a society out of control, navigate naturally moving through their own worlds, uniting without prejudice to save a shattered childhood. Their instincts and inner conflicts are well documented by the filmmakers as they explore the twisted world they inhabit. After all, boys are still boys, and in the world that an evil society has created for them, they find a way to do exactly what children do; play, explore and pretend. Her playful exploration has implications for her and the architects of the final decision. If ever there was an instance of instant karma, it was in this film. Boys will remain boys, and in the world created for them by an evil society, they will find a way to do exactly what children do; play, explore and pretend.
