I raise kittens and I love this scratching post for a number of reasons. 1) This is the perfect size for kittens to learn to scratch appropriate objects. The kittens grab the cardboard and this creates enough height for them to jump/play without getting hurt. 2) Cheap, it is important to take care of hygiene when raising. The price of it allows me to justify throwing it away and getting a new one between throws. Also by the time the kittens are around 8 weeks old (when they move to a new home) the box is worn out and will need to be replaced anyway. It may take longer with a cat, but 3-5 kittens in the few weeks they stay with me will come to nothing. Disadvantages: butterfly often falls off. He's stuck in the cardboard, but is expanding the "cell" so that when the kittens knock him out, it's difficult to get him to stay. And sometimes spring stays, and the butterfly itself is easily separated. To be honest, sometimes I just dismiss this scraper feature as it's not that important and doesn't add any value to the product.
