My new monitor only has a DisplayPort input and my MacBook Pro only has mini-USB ports. (After much internet searching I've come to the conclusion that the monitor's HDMI port is for output only, so this doesn't work for me since the laptop is the source of the video going to the monitor.) There is external hub for the laptop, I was able to buy a DisplayPort cable and thus connect your laptop. At least that saved me the trouble of looking for a DisplayPort to mini-USB cable, if there is one at all. The monitor worked as soon as I plugged in the cable with no adjustments, so it was amazing! The quality of the connection to the display seems good - there's no flickering or anything like that, so the cable seems to be doing the job. My laptop is next to the monitor so the cable length is more than adequate.
