We used a hanging basket on the side to hold the apples and let the bananas hang. The hanging basket is perfect for a pre-packaged bag of apples (about 3lbs), while the main basket holds a whole bag of clementines, a few lemons and a few peaches all at once and still has room. We only did 4-5 bananas at a time and had no problems with the hook. The only thing that worries me is that some of the wires were deformed fresh out of the box when washed and easily snapped back into place. While it was nice that it was easy to fix, it also bent easily when dropped. Avoid bruising on products and you'll be fine.
