We bought these because we had a small leak under the kitchen sink and only found it when it turned into a big puddle of water (we still don't know where the leak is coming from!) This morning, we woke up from The alarm rang as a few tablespoons of water collected and a puddle formed under the sink. This alarm clock is loud enough to be heard 40 feet away in a bedroom. It won't pierce your ears like a smoke detector and it's louder than a traditional microwave chime, which is good for us. I see if you put this in a garage or basement or anywhere with very good doors you might not hear the alarm.
