I was cooking on one burner at medium heat, These mats covered the rest of the unused burners. There was an acrylic container next to me, but not near the burner. After checking my food, I turned around for 1-2 minutes. I suddenly saw smoke and turned to see flames. At first I thought maybe there was fat on the fire or something had fallen on the burner. As it turned out, the edge of this supposedly "heat-resistant" silicone mat caught fire and quickly spread to the acrylic container, which burned slowly but became fairly stable as it was plastic and not that easy to extinguish. ...After putting my things in the sink I still thought something else had started the fire until I looked down at the rug shown here which was still on the stove to the side where a bin was . As you can see, it's thawed and half burned down. The other rug was almost completely gone as it was stuck to something else that was also beginning to burn. Pretty scary situation. Considering I bought them for their heat resistance and supposed ability to coat your hob with them even when it's still hot. In my case it wasn't on the heating burner, which makes it even more bizarre and dangerous. Luckily the rest of the house didn't catch fire as I was able to put it out before the flames reached the walls (I have a tile on my bulkhead and a range hood right above it).
