I previously purchased the XBT-80 design and then sent the XBT-880 for review free of charge, so my review has some perspective over this previous model. The first thing to note are the changes in design and build quality. I think this is where the 880 really took a step forward from the previous model. The 880 is still fairly light, but not as cheap as the XBT-80. The new design is very smooth and glossy, which I prefer to the old matte design. The curved strap has very good quality protein leather padding and a hard plastic case that feels more durable and looks more expensive. I really appreciate that this design has an extension to enlarge the earcups, seamless material that slides into the strap, rather than the XBT-80 where extending the earbuds exposes other sticky looking material underneath. Another design improvement of the 880 is that the ear cups are much larger than those of the XBT-80 and are actually considered full size rather than on-ear. The ear pads are also much better padded and the material does not stick together like on the XBT-80. The 880's buttons are also much more user-friendly, I've never bothered with the XBT-80's buttons, because so many small buttons were close together, but the 880 has simplified the button design, it makes them look better, it's easier to find the buttons without looking, and the clicking sound is nice. Despite this, the headphones arrived with a few hot glue spots that I was able to easily scrape off with my finger, but in a very unprofessional way. Another design flaw is that the cable connecting the headphones to the strap is on the outside with this design, and the slack twists when the headphones aren't fully extended. Unfortunately, the 880 stole a really nice key from the XBT-80. The headphones still work but it's a really difficult transition and when I first tried them they made a noise and I felt like I could break them! After about a week of use, the edges where the protein skin made contact with the plastic of the strap began to loosen slightly. As for the sound, I'm not a sound expert, but I have no problems with the sound quality. I don't listen to heavy bass songs or anything like that, but the sound is clear and I don't notice any missing levels, so this works perfectly for me. The opening voice is much better than the XBT-80, which was always at full volume, very mechanical and unpleasant, but I have no problem with the new voice: it's unobtrusive and much quieter. My only issue with the audio is that sometimes before the music or between songs there is a faint high frequency background noise that the headphones make while in use. The headphones don't have active noise cancellation, but it's very easy for me to turn off the noise in public places where music is playing, and the louder your music, the easier it becomes. close enough to the declared quantities.
