I don't know about a belt but it's good for posture
I wouldn't use it as a belt except on the skinniest and thinnest pants/shorts because it won't hold onto anything that has at least some weight, for example real jeans, cargo pants or something else. However, the tie around the waist itself is great for your posture, which is why I originally bought it. It can also be used to pull up dresses and shirts without a belt. Yes, it really is knitted leather, in fact it's a leather strap with a plastic pin on either end.
