Detaching the belt is just a breeze, pull the tab, you are detached. However, if you have to wash your pants every day, you may need to reconsider using this belt. Removal will take additional time. If you don't mind having extra time every time you wash, this is the perfect belt. The strap does not stretch and should be inelastic. I gave it 1 star for stretch, but that's how it's supposed to be. Amazon rating changes or removes stretch rating. The belt keeps its shape but it's not a stiff belt (not like a $100 tactical belt) but I like it.
