Best Quality Filter - Great Tasting Water

1 year use. I'm in a newer house in a newer area on city water (ie plumbing isn't old) and am still catching everything. I love the great tasting water that comes out of my filter and I love that I only have to change the filter once a year. The packaging of the Revain carbon filter is not very good and the last filter ordered was cracked. The crack was pretty hard to see, so just a word of caution: order the filter in advance, check it when it arrives, and make sure it doesn't surprise you. *Original post* I bought this device after a long research. to other companies AND their filters. I believe that Home Master (Perfect Water Technologies) offers the highest quality water filters made in the USA. Many other brands offer filters and do not disclose where they are made. Many other brands have cheaper filters that don't last as long. Many other brands don't get consistent taste and water quality ratings like these filters. When you first pick up and feel the weight of the KDF85, you'll know you're getting what you paid for. Honestly, the filter housing is a lot less special (how much it stands out or differs from the competition), but it's certainly of good quality and still doesn't give me any problems. I could have spent a little less money and bought another manufacturer's filter housings, but it seemed like a good bet that the company with the best filters would have a filter housing that wouldn't let me down and would match their filters perfectly. ; as long as it's absolutely true. I also like that the filter housing uses 1" fittings to minimize pressure drop in the filter system - I typically experience 3-5 psi pressure drop in my system depending on flow requirements, which I find perfectly acceptable. I use city water so I bought this HMF2SMGCC unit specifically for the ability of its KDF85 filter to remove both chlorine and chloramines (google it if you don't know, chloramines are new and becoming common sanitizing chemicals my water company uses them). I knew the sediment filter would remove all solids, which it does, and I knew the carbon filter in the KDF85 filter would improve the taste of the water, which it does. I did not test the water quality before and after installing this filter; the improved taste of the water, combined with the good reputation of this company, is for me personally the proof that the water quality has improved significantly. Additional note: I removed the filter block from my fridge and replaced it with a "dummy" block (e.g. empty plastic case). You don't want to leave the old filter in the water supply somewhere, it will eventually become a biological cesspool. Now that I no longer have to replace my overpriced fridge filter, I only spend $50 more a year to have quality filtered water throughout my house than I used to pay for just average quality filtered water in my fridge. .

Pros
  • Solid filter housings with 1" connections for the highest possible water pressure - up to 10 GPM
Cons
  • Expensive
