Great product but definitely RTFM!

Bought this model to replace my 20 year old lava lamp which broke from overheating (my fault not the light). The lava started flowing about an hour and a half after I first turned it on. Works like a champ. The base had a medium-sized dent on the back; was probably damaged before it was packed at the factory (no signs of damage to the shipping carton). Poor factory quality control. This is a minor blemish that has not affected the performance of my lamp. If you need a lamp that heats up quickly, this 14.5-inch model is your best bet; Larger volume lamps take longer to melt the paraffin lava (that's just physicists, not a product bug). Safety Tip #1: DO NOT replace the factory bulb with a higher wattage bulb. Yes, more watts means less heat-up time, but you run the risk of overheating and breaking the glass bottle. Safety Tip #2: DO NOT unscrew the bottle cap! Once this seal is broken, the tremendous pressure inside the bottle can cause a geyser or explosion. Safety tip #3 Place the lamp on a flat and stable surface (e.g. a desk). Safety Tip #4: While I've had no problem leaving the lights on overnight, I would NOT recommend leaving them on indefinitely. The glass bottle is solid and the lid is well secured, but accidents happen. Also RTFM, folks! There is a good user manual with instructions on how to get started. So READ them, especially if this is your first lava lamp. Lava Lite is a solid brand, so the $28 list price is reasonable. Enjoy!
