The 380ex is great as a fill flash
I have a few complaints about the flash performance though. The build quality doesn't match the brand. When you test the flash, you are almost blinded by the bright light. BUT somehow it seems like the flash never dies. This means that after 3-4 rolls of film the flash will fade to the point where it will begin to underexpose the image to the point where it can no longer be corrected. That means changing all 4 AA batteries every 100-120 pictures. Old batteries can still be used in low-power electronics, so don't throw them away.
