Review on πŸ“· Datacolor SpyderLensCal Optical Calibration Tool SLC100 by Luke Cotton

Well worth it compared to folded paper or homemade stuff

So happy I bought this instead of struggling with DIY print materials. I also tried the "Pyramid" and was not happy with its quality given the cost. While Datacolor isn't exactly cheap in price, the lack of frustration that I now have a decent tool to use makes it worth it. This Datacolor is durable in use yet compact when folded for storage. I placed mine on the kitchen table and then placed the cameras on a tripod with a lens at the same height as the center of the Datacolor tool. I used self-timer mode to capture each photo instead of risking camera movement because I'm pressing the shutter button myself. From there, all you have to do is zoom in on the photos you take and compare the results with a calibrated lens and camera combo (as instructed and worldwide). Then adjust the focus according to the camera's instructions. I was surprised at how far out of focus mine was, and this solved a lot of my blurring issues. I mostly shoot action sports with fast shutter speeds and very small focal points, at f/2.8 on a 70-200 Tamron or Canon zoom.
