Finally using a second monitor
The adapter works fine after I downloaded and installed the latest driver and then used the USB 3.0 port on my laptop without a USB hub for a maximum resolution of 1920 x used 1080 at 60 Hz. Helps to read instructions. :-) I'm currently running Windows 10 Home Edition (Version 20H2 - OSBuild 19042.685) with AMD Radeon R7 graphics.
