I'm so glad I ordered extra beads when I ordered this set as my daughter was dying to have the Pikachu that was in her ad. I just used their beads and you can see in the picture they don't offer enough. Because I love this activity, I knew this little set wouldn't be enough. I filled the rest of the Pikachu with matching colored beads from another supplier. I like the very sturdy box they came in and of course the board. They melted consistently and evenly and there was no noticeable difference in bead height or diameter (unlike the other set I received to complete this set). I have a set of beads. The rest of the set is good. I can't say how it compares to Perler brand beads as I haven't used them yet but we are happy with our purchase. My four year old son loves creating designs and watching them get installed all the time. We made some snowflake decorations of different colors and it was a fun activity for mom and daughter.
