When I received this product I immediately plugged it in with a tiny USB cable for charging. at first I thought. hmm, I have to keep an extension cord and USB wall charger with me at all times to charge this item. and what do the people who put it in their drawers do?. Oh, there's a detachable magnetic strip that sticks to the wall so you can just detach it and take it to an outlet. GREAT! It was a smart idea. The instructions say it needs to be plugged in for 2-4 hours and when it finishes charging it will change color from red to green. First let me say that I love a product that changes color so you know when it's finished charging. love love love but i think the mines are broken because. I left it on most of the day at work and NEVER SEEN A GREEN LIGHT! it couldn't be that dead. Anyway, it didn't break the deal for me other than working as intended. You can leave it on all the time and use it as a flashlight. or you can set it to be motion sensitive and when it turns off after 30 seconds it turns on a blue ultraviolet light (30 seconds) which is supposed to be a disinfectant. (Who really knows if this feature actually works.) This baby ends up in my laundry where I don't have enough light. while it just sits on the counter and bugs me every time I walk past it because the light is so bright it's blinding. I hope it reacts the same way when my friend sticks it on the wall. Oh, it also comes with a black velvet carrying case in case you want to protect it when you take it somewhere. I hope that was helpful. UPDATE: Well I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT ON MY WASHING MACHINE; The 2 sided tape holding it is rubbish. I suggest being prepared to invest in a really good third party band as this won't last very long. And there is NO STERILIZATION. I have invested in 1 of these UVC test cards and have not received any UVC letters. It said UV, but that means absolutely nothing when it comes to sterilization. So don't buy this product if you're looking for sterilizing, but if you're looking for some blinding white light to illuminate a small, good-sized area. this is definitely a buy!
