Review on PetzLife Oral Care Gel Salmon by Barbara Goodwin

I used salmon gel on the recommendation of a breeder who uses it on their cats after my 15 month old cat developed noticeable gingivitis. I used it twice a day for the first 3 weeks and then switched to once a day. The gingivitis was noticeably better after one month. Be prepared for your cat to absolutely hate this stuff on the first try. It's the essential oils in the product, so there's nothing anyone can do to make it attractive to cats. Remember, YOU are the one paying for the dental work, and the cat doesn't know that this unpleasant-tasting thing will cure his sore mouth. I tried the spray at first but it's like punishing a cat so I switched to a gel. My cat reacted quite violently at first and it was not at all fun to scratch him and rub the gel on his teeth between puffs. The manufacturer's recommendation to "put the gel on the paw" was worthless because he threw it away instead of licking it off. I found it best to sneak up to him with a dot of gel on my finger when he was sleepy and rub it on one side of his lips and teeth. UPDATE 14/8: My cat is now so used to the gel that she sometimes licks it off my finger. Dusting him with some of his favorite treats definitely helps. And keep the gel in the fridge. On the other hand, there is still some slight gingivitis on the molars, so again I used it twice a day for a while. UPDATE 1/15: Gingivitis is back so I now brush his teeth daily with this gel instead of pet toothpaste. Now he's an angel in it, and it's a very simple process, just a few seconds on each side to apply the gel exactly where it works best. The gum redness has not returned since I started this regimen a few months ago. I also received a large size (43 oz). Reduces costs and pump works better than 4 oz. UPDATE 1/1: Perfect teeth for almost three years thanks to this gel. I brush his teeth every other day, with varying degrees of cooperation. I will definitely continue this! I'm still sticking with the large size with a better pump. It keeps well in the fridge.
