Heavier than you think; not for all children

I confess: I got this as a sofa cover, not for a child. And boy am I glad I didn't get the 17lb adult version because 7 is all I can handle. I ended up putting it on my side of the bed and I really think I'm sleeping better. For me, it's not so much safety as reassurance and stopping my usual hectic drive. I fall asleep quickly and sleep through the night so I think these are big wins. But sometimes even 7 pounds can feel uncomfortably heavy on the body, especially when they're bunched up rather than evenly distributed. To be honest I think it would be difficult for a small child to move it (although I wouldn't worry too much about choking - they can always roll out from under it unless in a cot). I suspect some babies hate being tucked in and feeling trapped (just like some babies hate being swaddled). Therefore, before jumping, try to put the child firmly in a heavy bed and see how he reacts. It's just not for everyone, despite the benefits. Also, it's a bit scratchy, so definitely plan on using a flat sheet or blanket.

Pros
  • hands-free device
Cons
  • very expensive
