Review on 🎧 Black Denon AH-C400 Music Maniac In-Ear Headphones by Ben Hamilton

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Rugged looking phones with a somewhat unique sound.

Purchased in September 2014 for my iPhone, the packaging is very attractive, additional accessories are welcome (large selection of earbuds, carrying case). At first I was impressed, the sound is flat but very clear as other reviews have said (may seem strange at first but you get used to it), the cable is teak and sturdy, everything seems to be of the highest quality . I've had some issues with it (no product is perfect) I may have been lucky but as I'm not a US citizen and paid a hefty import tax to get this it was beyond my ability to get it for exchange and/or repair to send back. So I had to do the repairs. After a few weeks the remote started acting weird (buttons didn't work, moving the cable would skip all the songs, I loved holding the middle button the whole time), one day I decided to open it up and take a look (there are no screws or glue so you can easily open and close it again) I found that the wires going to the remote made contact (shorted out) with those going to the headphones, so I reorganized the wires in the rest. Check it and close it again, problem solved. After 6 months the right earbud started to fail so I went and took it apart to find the problem, the wire going to the headphone was shorted somewhere near the 'Y'. where they parted so I found a way to open it (it's some kind of rubber covering the plastic case that holds the little circuit board together where everything is soldered, from the mini jack plug there are 6 wires that go to a corner soldered on is the circuit board and the wires going to the headphones are soldered on the other corner of the circuit board, no wonder "Y" is so big). So I cut off a small section of the problematic wire and soldered it back to the board, covered it with a thin layer of tape, bent a paper clip to reinforce the wire (in case I accidentally pulled it) and covered it with another nice one Layer of duct tape (it looks neater now than that giant "Y"). While checking for a problem, I opened up the earbuds to see what was going on, the "black bullets" are nothing more than a glued-in earbud covering the small screws that hold the "housing" for one keep small (closed) headphones together The manufacturer's preview that these "black balls" are acoustic chambers for sound improvement is simply wrong. After these two fixes, the phones work great. I have to say they were quite difficult to repair and at this price point I expected them to be more durable (maybe it was bad luck). In short, these are good enough headphones, but the price range should give you food for thought.
