The material is not transparent at all. It is similar to parchment but even more opaque. I wanted to superimpose computer-generated text on top of a multimedia artwork - it would look like paper clippings glued to a page. It accepts paint, markers, pens, etc. which can meet your needs. For my application I used HP transparencies. I sprayed the printed sheets with a fixative and covered them with a matte acrylic medium and then covered the surface with the same medium. This worked well - you can still see the edges at certain angles, but they're a lot less obvious than with Grafix film. I used Grafix foil on a piece where I placed light writing on a dark background - you can clearly see the material but this was acceptable as the only other options were hand lettering or printing on paper and gluing the paper to the drawing were. .
