Dry in the shower: sleeping bags

Randomly wandered around the garden in a few showers and so far so good. Water drains well from the fabric. The hood is huge and very deep, but without a built-in visor. So far that hasn't been a problem at all. It hangs far enough in front of my face that my glasses stay dry and water doesn't run down my neck, but doesn't become "flexible". Time will tell if this continues, but wearing a baseball cap will solve this problem as well. It comes down to my knees (I'm 72 inches tall) so head to toe waterproof with a pair of raincoats or maybe guys. Thumbholes in the sleeves are good, especially when hiking, as they prevent them from riding up your arms, but they are stretchy and dry much slower than the rest of the poncho, so don't accidentally store it wet. I don't think it will work well in hot weather but then I don't care if I get wet. It easily fits in my 60L backpack. I wouldn't want to try this, but I think with a garbage bag for my feet and legs and this poncho for my top, it would make a good emergency bed. It's definitely long enough for me to sit up and draw my knees up to weather a particularly nasty storm. The bottom hem stays in place even though there is no drawstring or other closure around the waist. I had another similar jacket/poncho that had a pull tab/loop that went between the legs to prevent that the bottom hem dangled. It doesn't seem needed at the moment, but I may add it later. The stuff sack is quite small and I can never roll a poncho short enough or thick enough to fit well in it. That's really my only complaint. Well that and I probably should have chosen a lighter color.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Will be added later
