It was only boxed and very strong. This will raise your laptop to around 8 inches. I have a lightweight laptop and I have no doubt it will definitely hold some weight. I like to stand and sit (mostly standing) during the day and need to be able to raise and lower the stand during the day. The hooks on the bottom to snap the stand into place are very strong. If you're the type that likes to wiggle the stand up and down easily, this might not be for you. This might sound petty, but I have to remove everything from the stand and fiddle with the hooks (because they are reliable) to lower the stand and then put everything back. I was hoping for something simpler in terms of raising and lowering the stand. However, while the stand is folded up, there is a handy storage space underneath for laptops, mail and more, so there is no clutter. In general the stand is good but not what I was looking for.
