Inside there is a voice box
The first thing my granddaughter took was the voice box from the doll. She wanted him to be soft and comfortable to hug and his vocal tract to be quite firm and noticeable. Whatever it was, she enjoys listening to the voice outside the doll. I couldn't find a plush doll that didn't have a voice function, but it works now.
