Review on Cherne Clean Out Gripper Threaded 270138 by Vincent Burton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Have you beveled your PVC pipe cleaning cap? If yes, PLEASE READ!

If you had a drain cleaner plug in a 4 inch PVC pipe in your yard and ran a lawnmower over it READ THIS REVIEW. That's all you need so you don't waste time like me! I'm not a plumber and have no idea about pipe fitting. I met him with a lawnmower. For those of you wondering what it is, it's a small white cap sticking out of the ground in your yard. If you haven't seen it, don't worry, it's strictly for those of you who DESTROYED it! After looking at the mess I figured it was an easy fix because it looked like an easy fix , but it was a fool. I went to Lowe and bought a 4" cap thinking it would be nice, well they didn't fix it. I went back and bought a 3 inch cap but that didn't work either. Turns out I needed a 3.5" cap that didn't seem to be sold in any stores. My second option was to rebuild the pipe with a larger coupling that would fit the underground pipe and a matching cap. Only thing is the pipe is now over 5" more out of the ground plus digging is required. Not to mention the total was about $14 plus extra labor. I did some more research and came across the Cherne Clean-Out Gripper on Revain. I read the reviews and it seemed like a lot of people were having the same issue as me, but the reviews for the product were mixed. I figured I could always return it and just refuse shipping if it didn't work, but its specs gave me confidence. You see the grip is 3.5 inches but expands to 4.25 inches when tightened. I got the grip and immediately put the cap on the PVC pipe. The cap did NOT fall through and was very loose (before donning) and was slightly wider than the PVC opening itself (4 inches). Once I tightened the grip, everything fitted perfectly! It was very tight and didn't bunch up anywhere, not to mention it had a maximum back pressure of 40 feet! my lawn so I don't have to worry about mowing and you can always tape it if you can't find it because of its black color. Again, the 3.5" grip cap is designed to fit a 4" PVC pipe, no less. DO NOT buy this for a 3" or 3.5" pipe like many people have posted reviews as it will NOT fit. It is VERY easy to install and does the job perfectly. I wouldn't recommend anything else!

Pros
  • Glass filled ABS for extra strength
Cons
  • Can't remember but there was something
