Review on πŸ“ Swanson SVE360 36-Inch Savage Straight Edge with Non-Marring Anodized and Laser-Etched Scale by Amber Perez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A useful tool that is a good complement or substitute for a metal ruler

Pros: Looks great. (Hook 'em!) Although I already had a metal criterium, I chose it because the shape makes it rigid and easier to manipulate. Unexpected: A soft floor is both an advantage and a disadvantage. It's nice that the tool isn't scratched; but the edge doesn't sit directly opposite what's underneath. This small gap makes it more difficult to use as a ruler for drawing or cutting (compared to, say, my unlined metal ruler). Cons: First, the lining is lining material - small dots of foam fused into one. Sheet. Individual points become detached and the material can be crushed. I'm skeptical of how well this material will hold up over time. Secondly, the manufacturer ships this product without any protective packaging whatsoever. This makes it even more worn than after ten years of use by me. (I take good care of my tools.) I have a few of these (48", 36", 24" and a carpenter's square) and the story behind each one was the same. Luckily I knew that beforehand (thanks another one Revain review), so I ordered them individually so they wouldn't bump into each other during shipping.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Out of fashion
