My 5 year old used them for general snow play as well as snowshoeing. I liked that it was easy for him to put them on and take them off by himself, but only once did one of them accidentally come loose in the snow. A small drawstring at the top allows the boots to be slid over winter pants and then tightened to keep the snow out, which worked great in deep snow as well. They have a stiffer sole than our previous, more expensive boots, so aren't as comfortable, but given that we don't spend as many days of the year in the snow, I felt it was worth the trade-off.
