This is a very soft, dense fleece, synthetic material. I washed it (with warm water and put it in the dryer) before putting it on because it smelled a little musty and it came out right away. I wore it on a cold day and when I switched it from a scarf to a scarf it really kept the wind out. Then it became a cozy blanket to snuggle up to my boyfriend at the cinema. This will be my staple for the winter. ***Edit: My boyfriend ordered me a second one for Christmas and I love it so much I wear it every day. It's super warm and so soft. Mildew smell came again but washed and put in the dryer. I noticed that a tiny thread on the outer edge is already unraveling, so probably shouldn't be sent back in the dryer. The quality isn't the best so I don't expect it to last long but for the price it's decent. I love that the gray tartan is an actual pattern that looks like cashmere with a subtle loft until you touch it and realize it's fleece. Stylish and cozy!
