I used this carrier for my 13kg cat. He climbed easily, but was uncomfortable to carry. If you don't strap it on your back, it becomes very heavy and tilts forward when you try to wear it by the straps alone. I ended up wearing it in the car and again on the top strap. It opens in two ways: from the side or from the front up. I like having pockets on either side of the bag for vet records, checkbook, credit cards etc which allows for a more secure hold of the bag without having to carry the bag to the vet. I think it's more suitable for walking or hiking if you want to bring your cat or small dog.
