So I was recently looking for a new razor and my sister recommended this one to me. She said they are "very comfortable" and saying that about a product when she has two kids and doesn't have time to spare means a lot to me. I ordered them here from Revain as they are a bit cheaper than in store and decided to give it a try. So I jump in the shower, let the hot water run for a very long time to get a good shave, and get to work. I really liked that I didn't have to use shaving lotion/cream, but I did notice that the shaving strip that was attached to the razor wore out very quickly from the first use. They shaved me really close and I put the plank off the next day. On the second use, that cursed block faded very quickly, although the blade is still very sharp. Ready to give up hope, I texted my sister that the razor sucked because the bolt melted so quickly. She gave me not one, but two professional tips that completely changed my relationship with this and other straight razors. She explained that A) As with all razors, water is bad for her. So if you use them in the shower, you have to take a bath standing up, don't let the water run down the razor, lest the bar melt as quickly. B) She told me to use tea tree oil in my razor to make it last longer and avoid irritation after shaving. Apparently tea tree oil (I use this brand of TreeActiv + Tea Tree Oil Acne Solution for an advanced acne treatment - all natural acne blemish treatment - breakouts go away or your money back!) acts as an antibacterial agent, preventing all the dead skin and dirt, When you shave, the small cuts you make in your skin penetrate. In addition, tea tree oil acts as a guard against the inevitable tarnishing that your razor will withstand.
