Bought to replace an outdated array; same brand, similar model but with smaller rims. A 'ding' asterisk for the RAID utility for tweaking settings (including password protection for the same) that were no longer available on an older device when I updated macOS beyond what they support and this device isn't anymore can reset (the password protection seems to prevent rear RAID switching is not used for mode switching). I'm not sure why there isn't a "global factory reset" feature unless the password is to prevent accidental mode changes from destroying data. Otherwise, given the typical lifespan of disk arrays, I would expect Buffalo to continue to support their usefulness as long as there is a significant number of viable devices "in the field" (10 years?).
