Without this power supply my doorbell would be half useless. No need to charge the batteries of the home security device, this adapter solves a critical security problem w ringing when the doorbell fails when the batteries run out. In colder climates, batteries fail and a doorbell becomes a necessity. This cord is a great length and the box stays firmly in the socket, even behind a busy spot in my house - a shoe bench. I drilled a 5/8 inch hole in the wall for the wire, filled it with foam and used a wire cover to prevent accidental pulling on the wires in the high traffic area near the door. This adapter saved my doorbell! The box does get warm at times but not dangerously, the standard heat of something like a laptop charger is comparable and doesn't bother me. He often touches our shoes and doesn't bother anything he touches.
