Review on πŸ“» Sangean HDR-14: The Ultimate Portable HD Radio/FM Stereo/AM in Standart Black by Laurie Thomas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Tiny size. Excellent reception for analog or HD. Easy to use.

Small size. Excellent reception. I've had this little radio for less than a day and it may be the last AM/FM pocket radio I'll ever have to buy. Considering how small the speaker is, the sound quality is good enough to hear the difference in clarity between analogue and HD. I haven't tried headphones yet. Significantly improved analog and HD reception (AM and FM) compared to my old Sangean HDR-1 tabletop device. With stronger analog AM signals, the bandwidth seems to automatically expand for full high frequencies; Adjacent channel sensitivity and selectivity are very good. Analog AM sensitivity is better than any radio of this size I've owned. Analog FM reception is as good as my other Sony, Sangean and Roberts radios. Buttons and menus are intuitive; I figured out how to use each feature as well as country/range/tier configuration before opening the manual with the "try holding the button" trick. I love that the Sangean isn't programmed with any sort of artificial "chug" when going up/down the channels. I'm not sure about the battery life yet; He currently plays about 10 hours on AM HD and FM HD channels. A 5V power supply is included. I would expect it to drain the batteries faster than a pocket only analog radio as technically the thing is software running on a processor.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
