My Tech Review

We were looking for a standard AM/FM radio for the fridge. I used to have a good Grundig with a good sound, AC/DC function and shortwave. (Got this steal at Goodwill for 9.99). Well after a while the Goodwill radio broke, it worked, then it stopped, then I opened it up to fix it and it just stopped working. (I wonder why it was in goodwill) So I'm looking for a replacement that had the following requirements. 1) Easy Function Controls - This radio has it, on/off/volume; AM/FM/SW (only I use SW, not Mrs.) 2) AC/DC function to go outside in summer - Works, but as said, batteries cannot be installed when connected to AC. My review. PROS- The radio has a pretty decent speaker and sounds good. - Simple function control. - Sensitivity seems good - all the stations I use locally sound good - Remembers the last tuned station when you turn the unit on (unless you change bands and look around) Cons: - Me wish I could keep the batteries and still use AC to save batteries. (Don't like it but the specs say it works that way) - I think it's a DSP (digital signal processing) radio, it's all well and good, but the setup is very quick. This is undoubtedly because the SW covers the range of 4-18MHz and can run fast, but it is difficult to find the right frequency because it has a very large frequency variation depending on the knob rotation ratio. (This also applies when setting up FW stations and it can be a bit tricky) - The range switcher looks a bit cheap, not very nice, it works, I think it might side with the cheap switch type. Overall I give it a 4 because it does what it says on the tin. The price is reasonable and I'm impressed with the sound quality. What I would like to improve is: - To have a FAST/SLOW tuning switch so you can tune FM or SW a bit easier. - Reduce the tuning resolution in the SW range to 1 kHz. (Currently it's X.XX MHz which means 10kHz resolution, ok if X.XXX) - Turn on the circuitry that allows the batteries to stay in the radio (not used) when plugged into a AC power source is connected. (That way I don't have to put the last battery in when I take it outside.) - Try to find a more convenient range switch. I don't regret this purchase, but then again I'm a bit picky!
